One small addition, I used to play about with a large satellite TV parabolic antenna. I believe the capacitor values were a little lower, but I cannot remember what they were. So there you have my story and the complete circuit that I used. When the multi-vibrator was switched off the cats still refused to go in there, but I left it in place in case of new piss :-) I built a bar in there and we had a few nice parties. An astable multivibrator is a free-running oscillator that switches continuously between its two unstable states. This circuit is divided into two parts one is the Preamplifier circuit, which consists of a BC547 transistor, and the second part consists of an 8-ohm speaker and a 555 timer IC, which is oscillating in Astable multivibrator mode, with approx. (Complementary output pair - fed directly from the multi-vibrator collector) A low-power audio signal can be amplified using a 555 Timer IC. (Mine had a 12v supply and tuned by 5 - 12v) The multi-vibrator was tuned by adjusting the timing resistor voltage.

This may be OK at low volumes, but youll likely be driving the amp near full power to get enough sound. This I capacitively coupled to one of your piezo speakers. The speakers impedance is too low for the amplifier. So I had 12-V peak-to-peak square-wave = 6v AC.
This multi-vibrator drove a BC547 and BC557 complementary output stage. So I took a simple multi-vibrator and ran it from a 12-volt supply.

I did exactly what you wanted, about 8 years ago. (I would like to use the 555/4017 so i don't have to de-solder the L6232B.I will give you a longer reply to this in the morning. I then did some Googleing and found what chip on the board is used to drive it (for mine it is a L6232B) but i couldn't find a circuit diagram for a driver. but all my transistors are too low a power rating (already blew one ) and I only have 2 mosfets(i would need 3 (never mind read edit)) I was going to do a 555 timer running a 4017 decade counter driving 3 transistors powering the 4 pin motor. I also tried using the board that would normally drive the motor (i think it went bad) didn't work.

now instead of all the ones i have seen so far i want to be able to spin the drive at different speeds varying the noise in the background.(noise sounds awesome when playing 8 bit audio but for other songs spinning the platter while playing makes a perfectly clear signal) my question is how to do that? I am building a plasma speaker using a 555 timer to generate the audio tone.
